Reverend Paint Cartel - 2061 (disco hospital edit)
first off, i’d like to mention that no samples were used (hurt) in this recording. all the sax parts come from the Reverend Pain Cartel. he draws a strong influence from the heroine fueled early sixties jazz, which was one of the finest moments in musical history IMHO. my influences as a producer for this particular cut are worn on my sleeve (Prefuse, Dabrye, Shadow).
the track itself is just a single one take recording we did in about 15 minutes at my “studio” last weekend. i spent this week cutting out cool little samples, but for the most part you are hearing the main sax track in its entirety with only one cut near the end to condense the track temporarily.
basically we are trying to meld jazz, idm and hip hop. yeah it has been done before but this is really someone playing into my Audio Technica 4050 condensor. By the way the this mic sounds incredible with brass. well you can dispute that yourself, just give a listen.

dub on my mind
oh what happens when white people attempt to create dub, it ends up sounding nothing like dub. also, the original version was way too glitched out to even play live so i toned it down. added a vocal sample during xmas and voila!
Ableton 7 is really just a service pack in a many ways. Meaning there are many small improvements that are really welcome but no real major “features”. Regardless, after attempting to remix a song in Cubase SX 3 this weekend i believe they have a much better tracker on their hands. Much much better. Moving forward all my “electronic” stuff will be with Ableton.
Take something as simple as looping and time stretching, SX 3 made it such a needless pain in the ass. Acid was doing this in 98. Yeah i know SX 4 is out but no thanks. I’ll take Reaper over that.

i really like this one, jenn does vocals on this when play live, blue plays percussion and drums and lends his voice as well. this is the straight out of ableton instrumental dub. it is cool to see people dance to it at our “parties”.

ok there comes a time when you (as a producer) should just accept that the fucking sample you picked out like 5 yrs ago is much better than what you are gonna come up with on your own (drums). it would have prevented me from listening to this over bloated puss filled monstrosity over and over. so here it comes the original edit (pretty much). scratch that previous post, fucked up.

can’t tell how many bands the vocoder isn’t
There comes a point in time when you need to just post a song because you have rewritten every part multiple times. Either it is complete shit or it is ok. I’ve listened to this one too much and now i can be done forever, at least until the next mix.
